The world’s attention may currently be concentrated on a certain international sporting event in London, but cricket fanatics’ minds are much closer to the equator as they mentally prepare for the first ever Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL). This Twenty20 tournament goes from August 10 to August 31, featuring Sri Lankan cricketing icons Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan, as well as 42 international players like Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Nathan Mccullum and Saeed Ajmal.
And just as we did with the India Premier League, YouTube will be streaming straight from the pitch (with slight delay) on the SLPL’s YouTube Channel. For those far from Sri Lanka in an un-friendly time zone, no worries—just catch up on the highlight videos uploaded after the match conclusion.
We’re always excited to see a new T20 tournament popping up, and we’re even more excited to help bring the action from Colombo and Kandy straight to you, wherever you are.

Our August “On The Rise” nominees need your help to reach the homepage!
Our On The Rise program showcases four YouTube partners whose channels have shown strong performance and growth but haven’t yet reached the 100,000 subscriber count. This month, our four nominees are more than halfway to that point, and we’ve been captivated by their YouTube content. Each of these partners has found success by featuring his passion and skills in the videos he shares. We hope you find their content - about cooking delicious Indian food, fitness training tutorials, supercar events and races, and video editing software walkthroughs - as engaging as we have.
And while these partners have clearly done well on their own, they can still use your support to help them grow their YouTube presence, starting with the opportunity for one of these partners to be featured on the YouTube homepage. Check out their videos below and vote for your favorite here. In addition to your votes, each channel will be evaluated on criteria such as viewer engagement and channel optimization techniques to decide which partner will be featured on the homepage, Google+, Facebook and Twitter at the end of the month.

Music Tuesday: Antibalas, Psy and Tom Waits
After a miraculous and drama-filled Lollapalooza weekend (read about the rainstorm if you haven’t yet), we’re pleased we haven’t floated away. And we bring you the following treats to warm your eyes and ears this week on YouTube’s music page.
Antibalas Family Tree Playlist
You know Antibalas, even if you’ve never heard of them -- these are the guys behind the soundtrack to the Tony Award-winning Fela! The Musical. (They were also the musical’s house band during its Broadway run.) The band’s Afrobeat credentials run deep: back in the late ‘90s -- before Afrobeat was hip -- Antibalas crafted itself in Fela Kuti’s image, playing a 21st century take on Kuti’s potent mix of American soul, funk, jazz and Nigerian music. Over the years, the band has morphed an instrumental powerhouse, and its small army of musicians have spawned side projects galore. Today, as they release their new eponymous album, they introduce us to their universe.
Introducing Psy
Just when you thought you understood K-Pop, the genre’s latest phenom Psy breaks the mold. He’s everything K-Pop (as we’ve come to know it) is not: he’s not svelte, and his video is neither heavily produced nor glamorous. In fact, it’s funny, sly and self-mocking. At 17 million views and counting, it’s definitely gone viral -- and his “horse dance” has spawned myriad imitators and reaction videos.
Premiere: Tom Waits “Hell Broke Luce”
Tom Waits has always inhabited characters in his music, painting stories of people on the edge in album after album. It’s a kind of musical theater that runs closer to Bertolt Brecht than anything else, and in “Hell Broke Luce,” he inhabits the character of a soldier returning from recent wars. The music is abrasive: it seems as if Waits thinks he could corrode the surface of the internet with just his voice. And he might be right. The video is a hallucinatory ride -- Waits drags a small home behind him, trudging through military minefields, hounded by explosions and singing body bags. It’s a profound statement by one of the United States’ most iconoclastic musicians.

Watch Lollapalooza live all weekend on YouTube
Live music is a beautiful thing. It’s unpredictable, it’s sweaty and crowded -- and it’s LOUD. It’s also the best way to really get to know an artist -- if they can deliver the magic live, they may hook you for life.
That’s why YouTube is so pleased to present Lollapalooza Music Festival, in partnership with Dell, streaming all weekend on youtube.com/lollapalooza. The festival that helped launch alternative music in the 1990s has become a cornerstone of the summer music festivals, and this year fans will be treated to an incredible array of artists over three days, starting today at 11:30am PT.
The artist lineup is nothing short of epic: you’ll see growing artists Michael Kiwanuka, GIVERS and Gary Clark Jr. rubbing shoulders with crowd favorites like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Avicii, The Shins, Florence + the Machine and Jack White. There will even be a few reunions in the mix -- the Afghan Whigs and At The Drive-In are both back together for the occasion. (Insert fist pump here.) Be sure to check out the full schedule.

LOL: Introducing the 16 YouTube Next Comics!
Last month, we asked the funniest among you to step forth and apply for YouTube Next Comic. Those selected will participate in three months of educational workshops, including mentoring from comedic pros like CollegeHumor and Glozell, receive $5,000 worth of video equipment and $10,000 worth of promotion for their channel. The response was overwhelming and had us ROFL-ing, making the task of selecting the lucky 16 surprisingly difficult. After a few wet willies, some knuckle sandwiches and other intense negotiation tactics, we were able to narrow it down. Here are your YouTube Next Comics:

Austin Lau, Global YouTube Creator Programs, recently watched, “Olympics for Math Nerds.”
- ZekeMahogany: From horror to action, commercials and more, this Southern California based original sketch comedy troupe is constantly trying to challenge themselves to go further and try new things with their channel. They claim they’re just getting started, which is impressive given their 7 million views to date!
- iSekC: Part comedian, part gamer, full on funny, Kevin of Pennsylvania recently shifted from focusing more on pop culture and slapstick humor to comedy that is action-based, incorporating his love of gaming and his “crazy imagination” wherever possible.
- SteveGreeneComedy: California-based Steve Greene loves sarcasm and puts it above everything else. He also tells us that he only uploads videos that are funny, but we don’t think he’s being sarcastic about that.
- dicasp: This South African teenager realizes that two are funnier than one, so he collaborates wherever possible to bring his audience two times the laughs. His mom is a big fan of his. We’re sure you will be too!
- IFockingHateThat - These Vancouver guys like to add their own unique, absurd and Canadian take on their lives (or what they wish their lives could be). Did we mention they’re Canadian and pretty funny, eh?
- thekloons - While their name might sound like an 80s family sitcom, these Brooklyn, New York, comedians have become pros at showcasing the absurd and hilarity that exists in the everyday.
- Drcoolsex: Laughter is just what the doctor ordered, and this New York comedy troupe serves it with a vengeance through their parodies of pop culture characters, events, movies, TV shows, incorporating pretty sweet special effects as an added bonus!
- SeanKlitzner: Whether pranking or parodying, this California-based comedian, actor and general funny guy keeps it real for his fans (or as he calls them his “family”) with regular doses of videos that will have you tee-hee-ing.
- Sawyerhartman: This Los Angeles based actor and film buff had his eyes set on the big screen. While comedy is his forte, he also showcases his versatility by tackling drama as well. He’s now focused his efforts full-time on YouTube, which is great because we want to continue to ROFL from his videos.
- DashieXP: This high-energy, wacky Floridian’s most viewed videos incorporate popular video game and cartoon characters saying some pretty off the wall things, but he still likes to stay unpredictable and think of new ways to get people laughing.
- petergilroy - Peter wants each of his subscribers to feel like they’re one of his good friends, which is great because he records most of his crazy videos to have fun with his friends (and to impress his mom)!
- TheWingGirls: Los Angeles based comediennes Jet and Star who use a mix of sketch comedy, parody, and off-the-wall caricatures to comment on relationships and expose the truth about dating.
- MalumTV: Mawaan is a loud Londoner who likes to act out what happens to him from day to day (his life is THAT funny). Often donning a wig, he likes to experiment and try new ways of making his audience (and himself) laugh!
- Clisare: Top o’ the mornin’ to this Irish comedienne who aims to employ (and make fun of) Irish humor wherever possible. She tells us Irish humor incorporates a mix of irony, sarcasm, self-deprecation and shamrocks.
- jasonhorton - Jason claims he’s the world’ only white male comedian. Hmm. Not so sure about that, but we can say that this hilarious sketch and improv maverick loves to share his screen time with other talented comedians, resulting in countless LOL moments in his videos.
- jayfluent - This New Jersey native was told he talked too much. So, he decided to talk to his camera. Through his specialty, comedic vlogging, he seeks to establish empathy with and elicit tears of laughter from his audience.

Some of the biggest news stories of recent times have played out on YouTube—we’ve been transfixed by citizen-uploaded footage coming out of the Middle East, gained unique perspectives on natural disasters thanks to on-the-spot reporting and security cameras, and seen citizens document elections via video to ensure fair process. This growing volume of news-related video has contributed to the now 72 hours of content uploaded to YouTube every minute.
In this age of abundant content and short attention spans, thoughtful analysis and rigorous reporting is more important than ever before. That’s why we’re so pleased that investigative reporting now has a new home on YouTube—The I Files. Curated by the Center for Investigative Reporting with funding from the Knight Foundation, The I Files will be a hub and community for investigative journalism on the web, showcasing reporting that digs deep into stories, gives background to complex issues, and reveals details that help us make better sense of our world.

The journey to Venice begins: Top 10 films selected for Your Film Festival
Today, we are one step closer to finding the world’s next great storyteller. Over 15,000 filmmakers entered Your Film Festival but only ten finalists remain, each with the hope of winning $500,000 to produce new content with actor Michael Fassbender, director Ridley Scott and his world class team.
During the past month, 3 million people got involved with Your Film Festival by watching, sharing, and voting for their favorite films. After tallying the votes, we’re excited to announce our ten finalists:

As part of their journey to Venice, Emirates has invited the filmmakers to stopover in Dubai for a series of events celebrating their achievement.
Join these filmmakers as they travel to Venice and stay tuned to the Your Film Festival channel where we’ll take you behind the scenes, tell you more about the finalists, provide special edition movie posters, and of course, unveil the winner.
